I’m a big fan of New Year’s resolutions and goals. I know it’s cliché, but honestly I’m never more motivated than at the start of the year. There’s something so optimistic about having the whole year ahead of you to achieve literally everything. So every year I try to set myself goals and resolutions to make the next 12 months successful. Yesterday I talked about my blogging goals for 2017, so today I thought I’d share with you my personal goals for 2017.
Now whilst 2016 was a bit of a shit show politically, personally it was quite successful. I graduated university with a first, moved out, and got a job in a field I want to work in – so 2017 has got a lot to live up to! With that in mind, I’m setting myself some pretty big goals for 2017. Here’s hoping I can achieve them!
Buy a house
This is the Big One; the major goal for 2017. Having graduated, moved out, and got a job, the next logical Big Life Step is to buy my own house. Because, y’know, renting is fucking expensive.
Now I’m quite lucky in that me and my boyfriend have already managed to save up a decent deposit for a house. Combine that with the fact that my job pays pretty well, and we’re looking to buy up in Yorkshire where you can buy a three bedroom house for the price of a one bedroom flat in London, and it’s looking like we’ll be able to buy our own place in 2017.
Of course, this means I’m going to have to navigate the complex world of mortgages and solicitors, so if watching a small blonde girl disintegrate under the pressure of being a Real Grownup is your kinda thing, make sure you follow me on Twitter where I’m bound to live tweet the whole experience from start to finish!
Finally learn to drive
For my 17th birthday, my parents gave me driving lessons. Just before my 18th birthday, I quit driving after failing my test twice.
Whilst learning to drive isn’t the crucial, it would be useful. I get the train to work, and James is happy to drive us most places – but being able to nip to Tesco myself without faffing about with busses would be quite nice. At the start of October I retook my driving theory test since it had expired, but I’ve yet to actually book any driving lessons. But I’m determined to start driving again and finally pass my test once and for all.
Take some professional courses
When I graduated university, I went straight into a full-time job as a content marketer. Then, at the start of December, I got a new job as a creative copywriter and I absolutely love it.
Despite being pretty confident in my writing and copywriting abilities, however, I’ve never had any official training. Everything I’ve learned about writing and marketing and copywriting, I’ve learned through just doing it myself. But whilst on-the-job learning is brilliant, I would like some guidance and professional training.
Luckily, one of the first things my new boss said to me when I started my job was that if I ever want to take any writing courses, the company would pay for me to do so. So one of my goals for 2017 is to make the most of being in a supportive work place and get some official training to expand my skillset and abilities.
Those are just three of the big goals I have for 2017. Of course, I have lots of other little goals for 2017. I want to exercise more regularly. I’d like to try and eat a little healthier, more consistently. I want to shop more sustainably. But these are my main goals for 2017!
Let me know in the comments if you have any goals for 2017? Are you a fan of New Year’s Resolutions, or do you shun the whole New Year, New Me, cliché?
